Cross-Compatibility in Interspecific Hybridization of Different Curcuma Accessions

چکیده

Curcuma is extensively cultivated as a medicinal and ornamental plant in tropical subtropical regions. Due to the bright bract color, distinctive inflorescence long blooming period, it has become new favorite terms of urban landscape, potted flowers cut flowers. However, little research on breeding cultivars using traditional methods available genus Curcuma. In present study, pollen viability stigma receptivity evaluation were performed, genetic relationship 38 accessions was evaluated, then 5 C. alismatifolia Gagnep. (Ca), 2 hybrid (Ch), sparganiifolia 4 native species selected parents for subsequent interspecific cross-breeding. A total 132 reciprocal crosses carried out hybridization, including 70 obverse 62 inverse crosses. Obvious discrepancies among fruit-setting rates manifested different combinations Results showed that highest rate (87.5%) observed Ca combinations. There 87 with 0%, which meant nearly 65.9% incompatible. We concluded ‘Siam Shadow’ (Ch34) suitable male parent petiolata Roxb. (Cpet) female improve rates. The maximum number seeds per fruit (45.4) obtained when ‘Chiang Mai Pink’ (Ca01) used followed by attenuata Wall. ex Baker (Catt) (42.8) ‘Splash’ (Ca63) (39.6) parents. germination group Catt ‘Maetang Sunrise’ (Csms). ranged from 58.2% (C. Scarlet’ (Ca06) parent) 89.3% ‘Sitone’ (Ca10) an average value 74.0%. Based results identification, all individuals four exhibited paternal-specific bands, indicating true crossings 100%. Our would facilitate hybridization introduction variation wild into future, could be helpful realizing sustainable application green areas.

Identification of Drought Tolerant Lines from Interspecific Hybridization in Two Different Genetic Backgrounds of Barley under Different Irrigation Regimes

Domestication and artificial selection have reduced the level of genetic variation in barley. Inter-specific hybridization is one of the most valuable ways to restore at least part of the lost variation. This study aimed to investigate genetic diversity and screening barley lines which possessed the desired traits, as well as drought tolerance, within two F3 populations derived by crossing a cu...

Production of genetically male tilapia through interspecific hybridization between Oreochromis niloticus and O. aureus

This study was conducted to produce a high percentage of genetically male tilapia through interspecific hybridization between Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus and Blue tilapia, O. aureus and evaluate sex ratio, productive performance and heterosis of the progeny produced. The results revealed that sex ratios of the progenies of (♀ O. aureus x ♂ O. niloticus) and (♀ O. niloticus x ♂ O. aureus...

Interspecific Hybridization in Pinus: a Summary Review

The pines and other groups of temperate forest trees often fail to conform to widely accepted principles of plant evolution that are based primarily on observations of herbaceous plants. For example, interpreters of plant evolution tend to equate the fertility or sterility of inter specific hybrids with the magnitude of the genetically controlled reproductive barriers limiting the production of...

Natural Interspecific Hybridization in Gunnera (Gunneraceae)

Natural interspecific hybridization between Gunnera bracteata and G. peltata (Gunneraceae) in the Juan Fernandez Islands, Chile, is analyzed morphologically and chemically. Parental types from isolated populations were compared with parents and intermediates occurring together in Quebrada Villagra on Masatierra. Two transects were made in that area, one in a relatively undisturbed site, and ano...
